Moving cost guide

How much do movers cost in Brooklyn?

A local Brooklyn move is priced by volume, not by the hour. The table below shows what a typical move costs at each apartment size, computed by the same engine that powers our instant calculator, using a local move of up to ten billing miles.

Most Brooklyn movers quote an hourly rate on the phone and let the final bill surprise you. Volume pricing means the number below is the number, and you can itemize your exact furniture in about five minutes to get yours.

What changes the price

Walk-ups are the Brooklyn tax

Huge parts of Brooklyn housing stock, from Bed-Stuy brownstones to Bushwick walk-ups, have no elevator. Every flight past the ground floor adds a stair charge that scales with your volume. A third-floor walk-up one-bedroom typically adds roughly $50 to $150 versus the same apartment at ground level.

COI requirements in newer buildings

Elevator buildings in Williamsburg, Downtown Brooklyn, and along the waterfront almost always require a Certificate of Insurance from your mover before they let the crew in, and many require a reserved elevator slot. The COI itself is free from any legitimate mover, but it is the single most common cause of moving-day delays, so ask your building for its COI requirements the week before.

The 10% administration fee is shown, not hidden

Every estimate includes a 10% administration fee as its own line. Most movers fold fees like this into a number you only see on moving day. Here it is in the breakdown before you ever share your contact info.
